i carry your heart
Charlie Orme, a fifth-generation farmer, owns a ranch in rural Arizona. He has adapted his farming techniques in order to help better the environment—a world that his five-year-old daughter will soon inherit. We set out to paint a picture of the father-daughter relationship in a poetic fashion, utilizing the classic E.E. Cummings' poem "[i carry your heart with me(i carry it in]". The poem itself, read by an anonymous man, has a unique ability to express the deep emotional connection that is present in a way that feels both intensely personal and universal. As filmmakers, we used intentional sound design and a mix of formats, including 16mm film, to elevate the final product. Our hope is that we've done Charlie, his daughter and E.E. Cummings justice with this short film.
